In May 2018 Help Autisitic Children held their annual golf day at Hankley Common Golf Club. The weather leading up to the event was simply glorious, however, for our golf day we had torrential rain for six solid hours and the sun only came out when everyone left to go home!
Coffee, bacon butties and good spirit helped prepare our loyal supporters of the charity as they put on their waterproofs and headed out to face the elements. They would not be stopped! The golf was mixed but, as usual, humour and an understanding of this worthy cause ensured everyone had a fun day regardless.
Our halfway hut provided some sustenance for the players in the shape of delicious tapas by Montserrat De Vere Green, a friend of the charity, who runs her own ‘pop up’ Spanish restaurant. As the players marched up to the 9th green I think they were happy to see the amazing selection Montse had prepared. Her ‘pop up’ restaurant is well worth a try and a great way to entertain your friends in your home, so do give her a call and she will give you more information 07821 910502.
Although we were hoping for some sunshine to help soak up the refreshing G&T’s, kindly supplied by Winchester Distillery, the drinks were still well received, if not just to keep the guys warm as they faced the back nine. Delicious Twisted Nose gin mixed with Fevertree Tonic and fresh slices of grapefruit most certainly was a boost for all the guys and kept their spirits high.
Quite literally!
Once all the players were in the clubhouse, the rain subsided enough for Paul Barrington to perform his Trick Shot Show. He entertained us all, hitting balls from tees, two and three feet off the ground, straight drives whilst on his knees and showed us all how it was done. He also had fun showing up those who dared to give it a go themselves!
Competition was fierce and Team Spooky (S Stevens, C Tate, I Brimmicombe and J Budd) were our worthy winners with 119 points. We had a fantastic charity auction with a many fabulous prizes donated and managed to raise in excess of £10,000.00, which will go towards a minibus for Post 19, our designated charity for this event.
The team at HAC are always extremely grateful for the continuous support that is shown for our charity and look forward to welcoming you to next year’s event.
